Personal Life
Helping Others Move Better—In the Clinic and in Life
Like most physicians, my initial draw to the medical field was rooted in a deep desire to help people. Since starting practice it has been very fulfilling to see some of this in action, whether it is helping a patient with a painful knee be able to play pickleball or helping a grandfather be able to enjoy his grandchildren after a hip replacement.
Orthopedics was always interesting because it involves learning about the miracle that is the human body and finding ways to improve its function when pathology of whatever kind has made it hard for a person to function well. Orthopedics also just happens to be the funnest field with the most interesting cases and reconstructive procedures. I like to stay active so if I can help others remain active physically I think it does their mind and body good.
A defining moment for me was during medical school one of my attendings taught us that the best way to get good sleep at night when you lay your head down for the night is to make sure that the decisions you make for your patients are the same decisions you would make if that patient was your close family member, so that always stuck with me.
Outside of work you can either catch me at the gym or taking my dogs to a park or on a walk. My wife and I are constantly cooking and trying new recipes, and we recently added a Traeger grill so we have a lot of fun trying to make new things.
