BIOGRAPHY
Dr. J. Keith Spain is a board-certified family medicine physician with a certificate of added qualification in sports medicine. He specializes in the non-surgical treatment of orthopedic injuries and medical conditions in athletes of all ages and skill levels. Dr. Spain earned his B.A. in Philosophy from Tulane University in 2003 and received his medical degree from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine in 2008. He completed his residency in family medicine at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Florida, in 2011 and went on to complete a fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine at the University of South Florida – Morton Plant Mease in 2013.
Dr. Spain has additional specialty training in minimally invasive and ultrasound-guided procedures, orthobiologic regenerative medicine, and the Tenex Health procedure for chronic tendinopathy. He has a special interest in diagnostic and interventional musculoskeletal ultrasound and regenerative treatments aimed at restoring function without surgery. Dr. Spain is a member of multiple professional organizations, including the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and the Alabama Academy of Family Physicians. He also serves as team physician for Foley High School and is the medical director for both the Azalea Trail Run and Foley Sports Authority. His commitment to innovation and patient care continues to make him a leader in non-surgical sports medicine.

Personal Journey
Dr. Keith Spain's journey into medicine began on the streets of New Orleans, where he volunteered as part of a student-run EMS service while attending Tulane University. Those early patient interactions sparked a deep interest in human medicine and ignited a lifelong passion for healing.
As a lifelong runner and athlete, Dr. Spain gravitated toward sports medicine. His personal experiences with athletic training and competition gave him a unique appreciation for the challenges active individuals face. Sports medicine offered the opportunity to help others recover from injuries, prevent future issues, and support their pursuit of physical goals.
Life Beyond the Clinic
Outside of his clinical practice, Dr. Spain leads an active and family-centered life. He enjoys running, exercise, fishing, and SCUBA diving, and can often be found cheering on his two sons at soccer, baseball, or tennis matches. During the summer, the Spain family frequently heads to the water, spending time on their boat exploring coastal areas and local lakes.
Dr. Spain shares his life with his wife, a former collegiate softball player and advocate for community wellness. The couple met while biking in Mobile, during a time when he was training for his first Ironman triathlon. They now reside in Fairhope with their sons, aged 11 and 8, along with their chocolate lab, Pacer, and a leopard gecko named Skittle.

Deeply rooted in Baldwin County, Dr. Spain has played an active role in his local medical community. A former president of the Baldwin County Medical Society, he has shared his expertise at health fairs, school events, and community talks.
